A big bet against the froces of nature: Internationally the THREE GORGES DAM is famous for being one of man's greatest interferences with nature, raising the water level in the Yangtzi River by more than 170 m, creating a reservoir more than 700 kilometres long. Besides being among the world's biggest dams, it is also the world's biggest power plant. And less known outside of China: the damm is counted towards one of China's great tourist attractions.
(To get an inpression for the dam's size, observe the fisherman with the umbrella standing by the riverside on the last photo.)
